Online Pet Medication

1pets | All Pets | Saturday, 21 June 2008

There is one thing that pet owners all have in common. They all love their little friends and will do whatever they can to take care of them. It doesn’t matter whether you have a poodle or a parrot, you will want your pet to have the best care available. This often comes with a hefty price tag though. If you had a way to give them their same prescription medication at a cheaper price, wouldn’t you look into it?
Unfortunately pet care costs have risen right alongside human medical care. This means that giving your pet the best available will often knock a big hole in your budget. It doesn’t necessarily have to though. There are many online pharmacies that can provide you with the same prescriptions that you’d get from your vet. They are usually at a cheaper price as well. Just think about it. Most vets will charge you for a basic exam even if they just weigh your pet and write a second copy of a prescription that they already used before. If you have clearance from your vet you can use one of these online outlets to get the same medication sent to your door, saving you time as well as money.
The last advantage is that you can use their sources to inform yourself about the symptoms of the many diseases that could affect your pet. You can get a little knowledge for yourself so you don’t have to wait for your vets response to know whether they just have a cold or a full medical emergency.
The online era is here. You’d be a fool to not take advantage of it. These online pet pharmacies can offer you so much for just a little bit of your time.

Pet Grooming Tips

1pets | All Pets | Monday, 02 June 2008

The costs for a professional groomer can easily add up to make a sizable cost in your monthly budget. Learning how to groom your pet yourself can lead to great savings and possibly a little bit of extra bonding time with your pet.
You do have to be very careful about going the do-it-yourself route. Your local pet stores survives by providing you with expensive toys and shampoos for your pet. There’s nothing wrong with this necessarily but it does quickly remove any cost-saving efforts on your part if you spend half your month’s budget on fancy conditioner.
There are ways to make your pet look good on a budget. One of the easiest ways is to use baby powder for a quick cleaning. You can sprinkle some into your pet’s hair, let it settle, and then brush it out to make them smell good and look cleaner without the trouble of a bath.

Another good thing to use is baking soda. It will also let you perform a dry bath that will clean out some nasty odors without much worth. Just sprinkle some in their fur and then brush it out to freshen them up. Baking soda is also a cheap way to clean out their ears.

If your pet is scratching their ears a lot then they may have mites or a light infection. A cotton ball dipped in a solution of warm water and baking soda should help clean out the ears of any cat or dog while also killing any nasty mites.
As you can see, there are many cheap ways to clean your pet and make them look beautiful too. Grooming your pet doesn’t have to be a big expense if you know what to do. ;)

Pets: Holistic Medicine Options

1pets | All Pets, Tips | Monday, 17 March 2008

Your pet deserves the best when it comes to health care. This means that you have to take just about every option into consideration. This means a lot of holistic options that you might have dismissed.

Herbal medicine is one particularly attractive option for the concerned pet owner. Mankind has long observed the interesting fact that wild animals are often able to eat wild plants that have healing properties. If they recognize the power of herbal medicine, why shouldn’t you. In fact a special association now exists for the sole purpose of finding new herbal options. They are known as the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association. They’ve created a way for veterinarians to work with herbalists and botanists to find plants that can be applied in the veterinary field.

Another good option is basic nutritional therapies. Many of the problems that are pets face come from dietary issues. Thankfully these problems are pretty easy to fix with special dietary blends that provide them with the vitamins and minerals that they need. Many of the major brand name pet foods are actually looking into this themselves and offering the food your pets need in a convenient format.

These are just two simple holistic options to make your pets a bit healthier without resorting to any powerful chemicals or expensive medicines. ;)

Restraint for Pets in Cars

1pets | All Pets | Friday, 18 January 2008

You should take the time to properly secure your pet while driving for several reasons. The first is to protect them in the event of a quick stop or a car accident. Your friend should have the same protection you do. The main reason is to prevent them from causing an accident on there own.
Even the most well behaved do can act up during a trip. They can run across the divider and jump into your lap. That’s not much of a problem at a red light but if they do it while you’re merging into another lane on the freeway you may have some serious issues. You need to keep them restrained during drives if you don’t want to risk an accident.
The distraction isn’t the only issue. Dogs and cats can actually cause the accident by messing with the car’s controls. It is common for a small pet to slip behind the brake or step on the gas. This is one sure fire to cause a serious problem on a busy road. Big dogs can even bump the gear shift into neutral. That’s not something you need to deal with in heavy traffic.
The good news is that there are plenty of options to restrain them. You can use adapters to strap them into your car’s seat belt system or you can look into buying a special divider that will at least keep them in the back seat. Keep an eye out though, as new creations are being made each day to make travel easier for your pets. :)

Summer Pet Safety

1pets | All Pets | Wednesday, 02 January 2008

Summer is getting ready to go full swing. Now is the time to get ready to shift your behavior into summertime mode. You will have to take extra care to protect your pets during the summer months. Most of these are good ideas for the whole year though.
The first thing to keep in mind is that you can’t leave your pet in the car even for a few minutes. If you take your dog or cat with you anywhere, you need to bring a leash and take them inside. A car can act like an oven and hold in up to 120 degrees of heat in just a few minutes in the sun. This is especially dangerous for dogs. Dogs don’t have sweat glands and can only lose heat through basic panting and light heat transference through their paws. They can suffer from a serious illness if they’re left in the car.
You also need to always have some water available for them. You should keep this in mind for any trip. Your pets can get very thirsty even if they’re inside. You should always give them plenty of water and possibly consider throwing in some ice cubes. You really need to keep them hydrated while they’re outside though. A thirsty dog will also think about drink anything it can find. Summer streets can be full of toxic puddles of antifreeze or even oil. You don’t want them drinking that.
Finally you need to try and give them an opportunity to get out of the sun. It may sound odd but your pets can get a sunburn just like you. This can cause them to peel and suffer greatly. You should try and keep your pets inside during the sunny times while also applying a bit of sun screen to their ears, nose, and lips. :)
