Getting Out Those Tough Messes

1pets | Tips | Tuesday, 08 April 2008

Your pets will probably lead very adventurous lives. This can unfortunately take them to some very dirty places. If you take your eyes off of them for a second you can be stuck with a messy pet that needs a professional groomer just to be clean again. This isn’t always the case though. In many events you will be able to use old know how to get them clean without an expensive trip to the groomers.
Someone living in a well developed area will probably have to occasionally deal with their pet rolling in the grime of the city. If you find that they’ve managed to cover themselves in gum, or worse tar from a hot road, you have a few options before you make the call. Believe it or not, peanut butter is an ideal solution for these messes. You know that it works well for human hair, well why shouldn’t it work for pet hair. The special oils in the peanut butter will help isolate the sticky substance so that the hair’s natural oils work it out. The best part is that they’ll probably clean up the leftover peanut butter themselves.
People living farther from the city will have to be ready for an unfortunate run in with a skunk. You probably can’t imagine the sheer smell of a skunked dog or cat. The whole house will quickly reek just from the residual effects. Regardless, you will be able to wash the smell out with a good tomato juice bath.

You will need to use pure, undiluted juice to get the job done. When you’re rubbing it in just make sure you keep it out of their eyes. Then let it sit for a few minutes so that the acids in the tomato juice will isolate the molecules that cause the smell. You can then just use a good shampoo or grooming soap to wash out the juice. Your dog may be a bit red until they have a few more baths, but they won’t smell.

Pets: Holistic Medicine Options

Your pet deserves the best when it comes to health care. This means that you have to take just about every option into consideration. This means a lot of holistic options that you might have dismissed.

Herbal medicine is one particularly attractive option for the concerned pet owner. Mankind has long observed the interesting fact that wild animals are often able to eat wild plants that have healing properties. If they recognize the power of herbal medicine, why shouldn’t you. In fact a special association now exists for the sole purpose of finding new herbal options. They are known as the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association. They’ve created a way for veterinarians to work with herbalists and botanists to find plants that can be applied in the veterinary field.

Another good option is basic nutritional therapies. Many of the problems that are pets face come from dietary issues. Thankfully these problems are pretty easy to fix with special dietary blends that provide them with the vitamins and minerals that they need. Many of the major brand name pet foods are actually looking into this themselves and offering the food your pets need in a convenient format.

These are just two simple holistic options to make your pets a bit healthier without resorting to any powerful chemicals or expensive medicines. ;)

Eye Care for Your Pet

1pets | Tips | Thursday, 21 February 2008

I think that we all should be able to understand the vast importance of one’s eyesight. Unfortunately your pets can have serious eye problems that damage or impair their eyesight for the rest of their lives. If you want to ensure that they stay healthy you have to keep a close eye on their eyes. There are many clues that warn you of possible eye problems.

One particular problem comes in the form of eye infection. They can get these in the same way that we can. If something gets stuck on the surface of their eye it will obviously cause irritation, which they’ll try to take care of with scratching and rubbing. This usually just makes the problem worse though. Because of this you have to keep a close watch on them. If their eyes are producing an off-color discharge then you need to be extra concerned. If it persists over the day you should take them to the vet for a quick and relatively painless check for infection.

The best defense is a good offense though. You will do well to be proactive in protecting their eyes. Letting your dog stick his head out the window on drives just invites dust particles into their eyes. Letting any discharge buildup around their eyes is another surefire way to invite an infection. Do quick personal exams on your pet’s eyes to make sure that they’re free and clear. ;)

Pet Food Options

1pets | Tips | Thursday, 14 February 2008

Today is valentines day and I am busy writing this post for you. lol :D . Anyway, here are few tips for choosing food for your pets.

There are a few things to consider when choosing food for your pet. You cannot have a truly healthy pet without using good pet food for them.
The first thing to remember is that you can’t just rely on the analysis panel for your answers. The percentages on the side of the bag or can do not necessarily represent the vitamins and minerals present a fair comparison with another food as they may use different serving sizes and systems.
The main thing you’ll want to check is the actual ingredient list to understand what the food is. This can tell you whether the pet food is made for plant sources or animal sources. If you find that they listed an animal-based ingredient as one of the first ingredients in the list, then you can safely assume that all of the protein in it comes from animal sources. Unfortunately this list won’t actually tell you anything about the quality of the food itself.
If you want a balanced diet for your pet you need to get the main understanding of what it’s made of. A balanced meal will include something besides meat, fish, chicken, and wheat. It needs to have various vitamins added to it to provide for your pet with the nutrients that they need the most. :D
